Comet NEAT (C/2001 Q4) was discovered August 24, 2001 by the Near Earth Asteroid Tracking system operated by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Comet Lulin (center-right), also known as the green comet, made its closest approach to Earth February 23, 2009.
Comet McNaught was discovered in August 2006 by Robert McNaught. At that time, it was a faint object. However, as the comet got closer to the Sun, it brightened rapidly and was easily visible with the unaided eye in early January 2007. It became brighter than Comet Hale-Bopp and Comet West, earning the title of Great Comet of 2007.
